I was ground staff at an airline. It simetimes comes down to inconveniencing the fewest passengers. If the Crews are adamanent and threaten to walk, or you think things might get ugly at 35,000 feet. I spent a few years as an inflight manager. After dealing with several airrage incidents, I got picky about who I let on.

Tough crap, pardon the pun as it relates to this event.
You're uncomfortable - you leave. Not the other person who has broken no rules. I hope that if this story is true, the passenger sues for IDB as a minimum compensation.
