Actually, I am curious what kind of loco it was. An AEM7 or an HHP?
It was an AEM-7, nickname toaster, that roasted. Story with pictures of the burning motor can be found here.

What I don't understand is why they didn't uncouple the second motor from the first and just allow the train to continue without the burning motor. That IMHO would have been both easier and safer than making everyone transfer to a NJT train via bridge plates.
