In the same vein as the previous thread about cheapest/most expensive EXP qualification, here's an idea that's been floating around my head for a while:
A competition for the quickest EXP qualification in 2008
Each official entrant would sign an agreement to be part of the pool to pay the winner. The winning passenger would get the full out-of-pocket cost of their qualifying air flights (base fare plus taxes) reimbursed from the other official contestants.
The winner would be the first to pass the threshold and qualify for EXP based on the recorded time of landing of the segment that put them over the 100K mile, point or 100 segment threshold, based on their AAdvantage statement
Special rules would have to be drawn up to account for missed, erroneous or out of order AAdvantage statement postings, etc.
Since the flight schedules are published in advance, there is theoretically an optimum set of flights to get there, but then again flights are late, cancelled, overbooked or rerouted.
Part of the challenge would be to figure out what flights are likely to take off, what the weather will be and what connections are actually possible to make.
Alternately a third party could sponsor the competition. The XYZ.com American Airlines EXP challenge. Kind of like the Amazing Race.
