Although i'm pretty sure that i'm stuck, I thought i'd see if the collective might of all FlyerTalkers could suggest anything.

I'm an Air New Zealand Airpoints Gold (Star Gold) member and I am flying to LA on NZ flight/NZ metal. Upgrade no problem.

However due to the required minimum transit time al LAX I can't take the NZ flight/NZ metal back and am on codeshare NZ4841/UA metal. NZ can't upgrade me because it is not their plane and UA won't upgrade me (with MP miles) because it is not there flight number. I don't think I can change the flight numbers because of the fare.

Any ideas?
