Unfortunately AC will not likely upgrade you as EB status flier (or any other *A Star Silver or Star Gold FF). Almost all upgrade certs on AC can only be used by AC status fliers and then only on selected fare basis.
Flying on UA opens the option of using either UA1K SWU or Sweetspots depending on fare basis, if you can find a UA 1k to 'gift' you a pair of certs.
Even thought I'm an AC Aeroplan Elite, I frequently have better upgrade success on SAS and UA than EB and M+ FF would experience on AC
