I wore a golf shirt and Dockers. Took my shoes off and put on the little slipper-socks they give you (given that I had my feet up on the ottoman most of the time, it would not be nice to have my smelly socks up there). I did not feel at all out of place on either flight dressing this way. I would not wear shorts or jeans in Upper Class because (a) I think it would be uncomfortable and (b) I've heard that not being slovenly makes a difference in whether an airline might mark you as "SFU" in the future ("suitable for upgrade").
