I have sort of a similar question William. If I'm on a five night award (points for four nights) and I decide to leave after the fourth night does the hotel still get paid for all five nights? If they don't would I have to pay them a penalty for leaving early?

No, I don't think there should be any penalty for leaving early in an instance like this. After all, even though you only spent the points for four nights on a five-night award stay, we are still going to reimburse them for the whole stay as it was booked.
