Is the compensation 1,000 miles for EACH segment, or for the entire itinerary?
For each segment you do not receive an elite upgrade and you were eligible for one, you will receive 1,000 compensatory miles.
If you are on a direct flight (2 or more segments, but all flights have the same flight number), you will receive up to 1,000 miles for the entire outbound or inbound trip. (That's my understanding of how the Platinum Guarantee works with direct flights, anyhow)
