I suspect that GP may be holding up the posting of certain accounts to manage the timing of their expenditures.

Those FF miles cost them money. If they had a budget problem in 2001, I don't think it would be unusual for them to incur those expenses in 2002. So maybe they put a large batch of transactions in the queue for 2002, and are just trickling them out because of system capacity issues, etc.
