Congrats on the operational upgrades. My impression is that KLM upgrades based on a more random basis than NW does. My wife and I (both gold members) were on a KLM flight from AMS to DTW last year. We were with two others who were both silver members. I was surpised to see the others get operational upgrades while we sat in coach. I think it was just whoever checked in last who got upgraded. On Pacific routes NW seems to give operational upgrades very systematically based on elite status - when the plane is full, just like they do on Atlantic routes.
