In my experience, where it states "Flight:Waitlisted" under myitins, it will change to display a "call 1-800-something to confirm..." in RED when your waitlist clears. They don't call you when this happens. I would check every once in a while until 10-14 days before, when I would start checking every other day to every day.
I think that you do have to call to confirm, just like you do with any significant schedule change.
