If you are going to miss a flight on an award ticket not booked with Open Miles, you need to call FB BEFORE the flight you will not be taking and either rebook it with a change fee, provided there are award seats available on the new flight, or cancel the flight and have the miles refunded, with a cancellation fee. You can do this by phone, but it must be done BEFORE the original scheduled flight is supposed to depart.
