I have walked into hotels and asked for the price of their cheapest room for the night ...even though I already had a reservation. If the rate was cheaper than my reserved rate, I tell them that I already have a reservation, but that I would like my rate adjusted. In more than one occasion, I have been able to save a few dollars. It works better when occupancy is low, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
