I've flown on a UA B777, and those bins were large. I've also flown on a US A330, and found those bins to be a good size.
Well, the 86 was built with a concept of self-service bagga handling.
Basically, pax enter via stairs at the bottom, drop their crap off and head upstairs to sit down (this was perhaps the largest all-Y plane I've ever seen too).
In all the reality, it does seem to be a decent plane if not for those terrible engines they stuck on it.
