NW, DL etc lower fares to compete with LCCs, FlyI bottomed their fares to ridiclously low prices in an era of high fuel prices to get noticed.

NW doesn't need to 'spread the word' as anyone who's been at an airport in the past 2 years heard of them. Not the case with FlyI.
