I landed at HNL three times in the last 2 weeks - initial arrival and 2 interisland flights - and the island was initially on the right both times, with various radius 180 degree turns to come in for landing to the east. So the best view was on airplane right.
Sitting on Waikiki and Ko Olina beaches for a few hours each of 3 days, that's the path I saw for every plane.
