Still on the fence, apparently

From 23 March Telegraph article interviewing Malaysia's managing director:

"Malaysia Airlines also plans to look into the possibility of joining one of the worldwide alliances, Dato' Ahmad Fuaad says. The airline has been invited to join both Oneworld and Skyteam, two of the most prominent of the leading airline partnerships.

The third of the major airline groupings, the Star Alliance, appears to be off the agenda because two of Malaysia's main competitors are already members.

"The time is right for Malaysia Airlines to join an alliance. It has reached a point where the mega-alliance can provide feed for our development. The other point is, while they previously focused on the revenue side, these alliances are now more interested in cost-reduction measures and such things as joint purchasing," he says.

But so far, although Dato' Ahmad Fuaad and his senior management team clearly recognise that the aviation world is fast moving into the era of mega-airlines and are very aware of the cost savings to be made, they have not yet decided where to direct their membership application."
