To be fair, the HR Orlando isn't located in downtown Orlando, as it's southwest and between DT Orlando and WDW. We stayed there, went to MK early one morning, and it was fairly easy to jump on I-4 and head south. While you do pass the HR Grand Cypress on the way, it only took about 20-25 minutes to get to the TTC. Also, the HR Orlando is much closer to Universal than the HR Grand Cypress, as Universal is just north of the HR Orlando.

Yeah - missed that. For some reason I'd remembered the HR Orlando somewhere downtown - probably because of hotel's proximity to the OC Convention Center. Now looking on Google Maps, fully agree that the HR Orlando is considerably closer to Universal.
With that and to the OP - if the HR Orlando suite is what you want, go for it.
