Speculation on my part but as a semi-regular passenger through Zurich - the introduction of the EES system means it can easily take 45+ mins to get through passport control.

Typically it’s also E gates so need to take the transit which in turn is being refurbished so there’s only one train operating.

The whole process from checkin to plane is quite time-consuming now.
