I wonder if a 6am HKG departure would be the best or worst of both worlds. Best because you still sleep in your bed the "night" before, have some time on the flight to nap, and get to Tokyo in time for a late lunch. Worst because you're not getting a full night of sleep and at best have half a day in Tokyo versus the full day off the redeye.
