The upgrade will be immediate, and it will last until the end of the following year. The website says
You will earn Status Points annually from 1 January to 31 December. The Status Points accumulated during this period will determine your status in the following year. If you earn enough Status Points to qualify for a higher status, you can start enjoying the benefits associated with the higher status the next day until the end of the following year.
