We have a similar or same situation with the OP. I'm A-List and my wife has companion pass (but not A-List). As I understand the new system, I should book a flight for her, then add myself as a companion. At <48 hours, I can then select my own premium seat, and then quickly get her the seat next to that. No seat charges for either of us.

Do I have it right? Thanks.
