Me and my wife had a flight with ITA Airways from Rome FCO to Tunis (AZ 864) on 11 December 2025, but before landing in Tunis there was sudden fog, so we could not land, crew decided to divert to Monastir Airport (MIR). It seems we were unclucky, as all other airlines managed to land at Tunis at the same time period, just ITA and Turkish diverted. Well, this happens sometimes, but how the diversion was handled very poorly. We sat on tarmac at totally empty Monastir for an hour (in meanwhile, Tunis airport was fine and landings were again possible), then we were thrown out of the plane and put on the buses to be ferried back to Tunis, while empty (!!) plane returned to Tunis to collect waiting passengers on the flight back to Rome (landed in Tunis with 3h 15min delay). No explanation was given to us passangers why such treatment, no duty of care was provided, no water, no food, nothing, just two hour wait for the buses with little to no information and then 2,5 hours drive to Tunis, where we arrived 6 hours late. I am sure this is clear breach of several aviation rules, among them EU261 directive regarding the duty of care.

I would appreviate your thoughts about it... Let me emphasize that I am not questioning diversion itself, but the airline management of the case after landing at the alternate airport.
