Agreed and this just goes to show you how bad Chase's wording is on this. They have people that have been in the points and miles game for decades (myself included) confused on what the wording actually means. Yes, you lose the points you would have earned on the $250 that you did not actually spend due to the credit, but you do not lose the entire transaction worth of points.

To be fair to Chase, I look at Amex's treatment of this (giving you points for what was otherwise credited) as a bonus vs. Chase being the expected behavior (you don't earn points on what you didn't actually spend). I just wish Chase would fix the wording to avoid confusion.
