Okay - to reply to my own post...: the issue was that BA had put in a 'claim' due to a broken seat - before I had even set foot on the plane. This meant that I could not actually submit a delay compensation claim since there was an active (probably actually 'closed'/'resolved') case on that booking. Had to ring BA to sort it out.
