Yes, UA getting back into JFK is a big deal. But B6 has lots and lots of holes in their network that UA could help paper over as a partner.
UA and B6 cannot coordinate on schedules, and I have to think that Kirby in particular is less interested in coordinating on routes than finding a way to eventually getting UA a material footprint at JFK (and maybe BOS - I don't think UA likely cares that much about FLL, unless there is demonstrable evidence that B6 is turning a profit on their Caribbean routes).
