Perhaps is not cheaper to buy a First Class ticket today…
Can't go 20 years but 10 years back I could buy F tickets on the routes I was most commonly flying OTP>NYC or CLJ>NYC via germany on LH for around $3,500. Now they're usually $5,000+. The really big difference though is that mileage redemptions in F were much easier and much cheaper. I could literally buy miles from United for around $2,700 and book a round trip F ticket for that.
