Alright, well I took my one way trip on SATA and flew PDL-JFK the other day. Just for the sake of others here is a short review.
Airport (PDL):
Certainly on the small side and check in was efficient. My carryon weighed 10.8kg and had to be checked. Lines were decent considering flights to YYZ, BOS and JFK basically leave all at the same time.
Airside "Schengen" not a whole lot going on there one small cafe with a bar. Little bit of duty free. Not somewhere you want to budget a lot of time.
When you cross into "non Schengen" to head to the US it gets pretty grim. Very small area, another tiny cafe and bathrooms. Certainly don't go through immigration any earlier then you need to.
Boarding was somewhat efficient and we walked out to the plane.
Onboard plane was fine obviously pretty new. Good leg room for a European carrier. Our flight time was exactly 5 hours.
There was power at the seat and wifi. Although, the streaming entertainment had very few options.
There was only one service after take off. Only one choice of meal was available a chicken and pasta dish. Beer and wine were complementary as well.
Some water was served closer to descent but that was it.
Overall, not the best or worst flight I've had. Not having to back track from PDL to mainland Europe to go home made it all worth it.
The Azores were great and I would return and fly SATA.
Hope this helps someone out there in the future.
