Poor AC - wouldn’t stay here again, if you paid me
My family and I stayed her for two nights April 2-4 in an executive suite room 1614. Unfortunately I will NEVER stay here again. I’ll explain below, but simply put, if the AC isn’t working, just tell me vs stringing us along for 2 days and telling us it’ll be fixed.
This was supposed to be a 5 night stay, but we departed early as the AC was never working and after 2 nights of 27-30 C temps in our room we’d had enough. Mind you I get AC in Europe is not always as good as the US, but when the rest of the hotel was cooler, and outside temps were 12-16 C, it made for a few uncomfortable sleeps.
The staff were as helpful as they could be and we frankly ignored the temp issues on night one. On day two we asked about it and they sent up a technician who pushed a few buttons and then said he needed to get maintenance. We were told as we left the hotel for a tour that it would be fixed in a few hours and that the whole hotel was down. Fast forward 7 hours and when we came back we were told it was fixed and staff were surprised our room was hot, they said maintenance would come look at it. This was around 6 PM, and we went to dinner and came back after 9 and we’re told they came buy and fixed it again. But it wasn’t and they said they would send someone up but they never came.
On morning three, I asked about the AC again as it was still 30 plus. They said we can move you to a different room, and said please look at it and tell us if you’re ok with it. We looked at two rooms and they were just as hot and the AC was on too. At that point we debated just standing pat vs moving to a new room as if it wasn’t any better what’s the point. About 15 minutes later the front desk called to ask what room we wanted and then told us that the AC was out for the whole building and would be for the day. This was our que to check out and find better accommodations.
If it weren’t for the AC shenanigans we would have stayed. But since they had no idea if it would be fixed what was the point. Besides that the hotel is 30-40 minutes by public transport to Pl. Catalunya or 20 by Uber/taxi. There’s not much around this hotel either, so there was no compelling reason to stay. Staff were super friendly and the lounge was very nice and had snacks, and drinks all day it was open 8 AM- 10 PM and breakfast in the dining Room was also plentiful and tastes fresh. So I have to give them that.
Outside of the AC, the windows in our room and the two they offered to move us too were filthy on the outside. I should have taken photos, but was thoroughly disgusted and actually made it very difficult to enjoy the view. The rest of the hotel and our room were spotless though. I ended up never realizing how much I appreciated clean windows before.
