What I find crazy here is that earning Avios is generally easier then Skymiles, so when they also charge 4-5x more to redeem it makes Skymiles an especially worthless currency.
Mileage arbitrage has always been the name of the game.
DL unfortunately has closed many of the SkyMiles loopholes (hence why it's now called SkyPesos) but there are always programs where there is outsized value up until it gets overused or overpublicized (see Alaska Airlines and Emirates F award tickets).
