tiger air tigerlight fare seat selection question

My understanding is that, with most airlines, if you don't pay to select a seat one will be assigned to you for free; but the Taiwanese airline, Tiger Air, offers a budget fare called "Tiger Light." If you reject the seat selection, they tell you it will be more expensive to buy it later, and you must click a button that says "buy later." Does anyone know if this fare actually requires buying a seat, or is this just some sort of pressure selling tactic, and you will get a seat assigned if you don't select one?
