I have a mixed cabin J-Low (not Flex) Aeroplan Reward booking:

ZRH-EWR LX-Y economy
EWR-YYZ AC-J business

Speaking with an Aeroplan agent, I was informed that even if LX-J space opens up on the ZRH-EWR flight, that I would need to pay a $100 change fee to exchange from Y to J, plus any recalculated taxes/fees.

The latter I would expect, due to having an AC segment in the itinerary.

But is this how it works now with this program? It used to be a free exchange from Y to J on the same flight.

Would it make any difference if the EWR-YVR segment was on partner UA-J instead of AC, per the $100 change fee?
