I had one night trip in May during memorial day weekend.
I booked this hotel before it became category 5.
Destination fee benefits
- Sandiego Zoo ticket (maybe 10% discount).
- US midway museum discounts (I think 15% discount).
- drink credit of 10 dollar, if i remember correctly (didn't use it)
- free drink or beer during check-in (4pm-7pm i think)
- free Pepsi drink, water, and snacks in the room.
Globalist benefits
- Globalist benefits were fully explained during the check-in process
- I did not ask for upgrade, but the front desk person just straight up told me that no upgrade as available as the rooms were nearly fully booked. It sounded like they proactively upgrade rooms for globalist.
- Breakfast in the roof top: A la carte menu. One of the best globalist breakfast in USA in my opinion (especially for a category 4 hotel). For two adults, we ordered 2 entree, 1 coffee, 1 juice, 1 smoothie. Taxes and service fees were already included in the bill. The waitress gave me the bill, and proactively said since I'm globalist, I won't get charged, and also said the tips are included so I don't have to pay anything. Total including tips were around $100, and was fully covered.
Area
- It's located in downtown, center of the night life of the San Diego in the Gaslamp quarter. (Adjacent Grand Hyatt Manchester is maybe 10-15 minute walk away from the Gaslamp Quarter).
- Lots of great nearby restaurants, including many GREAT taco places..
- It can be loud at night, but I was so tired that I slept pretty well regardless..
Overall, if you plan to hang out in downtown San Diego, this hotel would be a good choice.
Great location, great breakfast etc.
If you plan to visit San Diego Zoo or Midway Museum, make sure to book it through the front desk when you get to the hotel to take advantage of the discount.
