We stayed at the Bright Angel Lodge inside the GC Village. Inside. In the morning it's 30 seconds to walk to the rim to watch sunrise.
It cost US$150+tx a night for a Q room with toilet/shower. No breakfast. But there's a mini-fridge and a small coffee maker.
Beside Bright Angel, there are other lodges inside that are more expensive. For us, we're hardly in the room, so Bright Angel worked out fine.
Rooms are often booked up way in advance. But for our trip a few days ago, I kept on checking, and when some became available (there're lots of cancellations, as you can cancel up to 2 days before without penalty), I booked. Eventually got 2 nights. The mule ride was also booked up, but I kept checking and our date came up, booked that. The mule ride check-in and shuttle bus pick up, are at Bright Angel. The Red bus (goes to the west) also start at Bright Angel. So it is very convenient.
