Hope your partner got it all worked out. My Monday morning DCA-ATL has already been cancelled and the automatic system put me on DCA-LGA-RDU-ATL. Fortunately, reached a good agent on the phone and was rebooked out of BWI. Unfortunately, an Uber instead of a $5 Metro ride, but I'll take it.

Exactly, which is why the statistics aren't very helpful. We have no way of knowing whether delays are better or worse than cancellations in the abstract. I think we should be able to agree though that a day where most airlines have more than 35% of flights canceled or delayed does indicate a bad travel day that goes beyond a single airline.
And I say this as someone who's partner is currently on hold with Delta due to flight cancellations tomorrow. Notably, out of DCA, AA and UA are also cancelling tons of flights, and also have zero availability
