NY Times article may give you a very small insight into why some of us are concerned about a return to the 'bad old days' of Delta. Some of the COVID responses they've made are eerily similar to those days. Thankfully, Delta is financially stable. And barring some ridiculous missteps, there is no worry about filing for Chapter 11 again (as did 5 other additional airlines at the time). But early retirements, poorly trained junior staff and lessening the experience in the FC/D1 cabin could definitely tank their customer service metrics.
Given the changes in technology, the industry, and the company, I think citing to a 1997 article about Delta is as relevant is citing to an article about the Wright Brothers.
