I don’t think it is either A or B, this ‘combining’ has been reported several times before. But I do believe that it required an experienced agent, who knows the system well. And as a Gold member, I automatically get connected to an agent who seems to fit that bill.
Others have (politely) asked an agent if they could check if it is possible and have usually been successful. Persistence quite often pays off when you want to secure an upgrade.
