Almost true. There is a exception - If Airpoints is the FFP on the booking (but you have no status with NZ), then you won’t be allowed access by showing a *G card of another program. AirNZ staff will insist that the FFP on the booking is changed to the other program where status is held.
AirNZ policy is deliberately at variance to *A policy. I have exchanged correspondence on this matter with AirNZ to no avail.
