True in my case, but I would have booked the Courtyard a block away if I had known because I'm here with two friends. They were similarly priced when I was researching iirc, but having a full breakfast option for my friends if they wanted it seemed better than $20 daily credit that would have been confusing.

Why would anyone operating a Residence Inn franchise be so stupid?

Why does Marriott International allow this Residence Inn to get away with it? It weakens the brand. When a brand advertises, "Wake up with a complimentary breakfast full of your fresh, hot and healthy favorites," and then provides nothing at all, it sends a message that Marriott lies.

1,000 points (worth about $6) for four breakfastless mornings -- given only to guests who complain -- is an insult.

Perhaps Marriott Bonvoy Lurker could provide some insight on this.
I admit that I didn't read any reviews beforehand, just looked at the pictures to see how recently it had been renovated. However, that seems to be the whole point of a hotel brand, that you don't need to do extensive research to get a consistent experience. I'm organizing a Costa Rica friend trip right now in areas with only independent hotels... lots of work!

Hey.... they knocked the daily rate down for everyone And they helpfully suggested some spots where guests can go pay for their own breakfast!

They could get away with this if they'd just announce prominently that it's not included. So bizarre. Really kind of a swindle.
Yup. After they told me they didn't have breakfast I checked just to be certain.
