KLM can book a hotel for you + dinner voucher (at least, they did for me in the past), although I wouldn’t expect this to be arranged automatically. However it may be faster / more convenient to book yourself and claim back later.
However it might also result in the airline denying refund on basis that they had arranged a hotel for you on their own and they are not obliged to pay extra for your own booking just because you declined their offer.
