With dynamic award pricing, UA can use award purchases / pricing to sell seats on flights with excess unsold seats, flights where demand is falling short of available inventory. So, there is an algorithm, but it is not based solely on the calendar.

For peak travel periods where sales are strong, saver level awards may never be released
