I had reserved my room but never deducted the points, since the date I made my reservation, the required points for redemption has steadily decreased as my arrival date approaches. I'm now at sub 100k/pts per night for an OWV redemption. I think I'm gonna finally pull the trigger and have them deduct the points to lock in the rate.
If the price goes down after you have booked and paid, you can just go to manage your booking the marriot website and update your booking to receive a reimbursement of the points deduction. I booked a few months ago for a trip in October for over 600k points, and have now received 200k points back in checking rates and updating my booking as the rate has gone down!
