Well, it isn't. I trust my own eyes perfectly well in this case.

Maybe the sentiment here is that it appears there is an urgency of putting a door no matter what and by doing that the airline forgets about making a seat that is also more comfortable than the previous seat generation.
I think we are getting what appears to be a less comfortable seat (tighter at several spots) but with a door. The trade-off does not seem justified.
Bingo. Doors are just like any "enhancement" that AA trots out, a little window dressing and they take something more important away.

The new doored suites on many airlines are step backwards in space and comfort from their previous seats.
