UA needs regulatory approal to put its UA* code on EK flights, and vice versa for EK* on UA flights. Right now this is strictly a well-publicized interline agreement with presumably a "fair" pro-rate agreement between EK and UA with designs to eventually seek approval to codeshare.
It's about capturing the EWR-India market right now, which has struggled with the loss of Russian overflights, and little else. Eventually we might see more, but that is probably a year or so away.
