Agree. Especially in rural areas people rent quite large cottages and family houses, so you should find something, even off season, as a quick search on AirBnB confirms. Distances by car in that area aren't that long: Lærdal - Aurland- Flåm - Gudvangen is 55 minutes by car. Do note that there are two very long tunnels, though (the summer road between Aurland and Lærdal is very beautiful, though)
