I remember that my parents would gate-check my younger sister’s Bugaboo Frog or a collapsible “umbrella” stroller, but the winter stroller (a more heavy duty single Bugaboo, in a padded case) would have to be checked in. Basically, any sort of smaller single stroller should be fine, as long as it fits through the security scanner.
