It's not true at all. I'm here now. Yes, the reef in the most shallow parts is dead and bleached, but as you move toward the shelf/cliff, it is vibrant with various colorful corals, tropical fish, sharks, octopi, residential sea turtle "Ben," and many other creatures. Outside of my snorkeling and diving experiences on the Great Barrier Reef, this place is the best I've ever seen (without having to take a boat to a special diving location). It's a stunning, healthy reef, and very, very, special.
Glad to hear it. I was also quite surprised to read that report. It was thriving when we there last year.
