The hotel cost problem is probably not helped by the fact that Travelodge (and possibly premier inn too, but I might be wrong on that) - where many rooms at the cheaper end of things can only be booked directly. So if you are not familiar with the uk you naturally would go to Expedia etc and not be shown these as an option. I think I am correct in saying but someone will no doubt correct me if I am wrong!
