I figure that whatever Marriott Corporate has decided to donate to charity, they're going to donate to charity. All of these options to exchange my miles or points for some kind of charity are just ways to let the company take my miles and points off their books. The fine print always states that the donation is not tax-deductible for the member. It's already baked in to the company's PR, accounting, and tax planning.
So I always use my miles/points to benefit me...and then if I want to donate something of my own to charity, that's a separate thing.
