If you earn miles for a portal-wide activity you will earn redeemable miles but no loyalty points. For example 1000 miles for first time enrollment, for installing a portal plugin, or special offers for meeting a portal-wide spending threshold.
If you earn miles for purchasing from a specific merchant you’ll earn miles and an equal amount of loyalty points. It doesn’t matter if the offer is temporarily increased or if it’s a fixed number per purchase.
